Sandhill Cranes at Barkway
One of a pair of Sandhill Cranes that spent the summer of 2001 in the Barkway area. This photo was taken September 23, 2001 in a field where they foraged quite often opposite Cooper's farm at 1586 Barkway Rd. They were also seen frequently at Barkway Lake and Hopkin's farm on Gartersnake Rd off Merkley Rd east of Barkway.
Two cranes returned to barkway in April 2002, probably the same pair, and are being seen in the same locations. If anyone finds a nest or sees young please post the sighting on the Bird Board. This would be the first confirmed evidence of breeding in Muskoka.
