Hospice Muskoka & Caregivers Muskoka/Parry Sound needVolunteers for caregiver relief and family support.  As a volunteer you can provide:

- companionship to family caregivers with a loved one at home who has a long-term illness or a disability

- short-term relief to a caregiver in need of a break

- caring support to individuals diagnosed with a terminal illness and their families

- comfort to families adjusting to the death of a loved one.

 A 30 hour training program is offered one or two times per year.  The volunteer responsibilities include non medical support such as:  companionship, reading aloud, listening, telephone support, writing letters, giving simple comfort measures, assistance with daily activities, playing cards or games, spending time with a person so the caregiver can have a break, and bereavement folow-up.   Volunteers are screened before being accepted.
