Motto
for Self Care
-
Ask for help; you may be surprised at how much help
is available!
-
Learn about the disability or illness; being prepared
can reduce stress.
-
Take time for yourself, so that you stay healthy. If
you become ill, who will care for your loved one?
-
Take a break; it can refresh you and renew your
energy for caregiving.
-
You are not alone; there are many others in your
community who are also caregiving. It will help you to share your
questions, feelings, and joys about caregiving.
-
Think of one good thing that has happened today.
Help
the Caregiver
-
Listening is the most important thing you can do for
a caregiver.
-
Give the caregiver a break by offering to stay with
their loved one.
-
Invite the caregiver to go out.
-
Offer special help, such as shopping, yard work,
banking, etc.
-
Don't give advice unless it is asked for.
-
Be supportive of decisions the caregiver makes.

can you be involved?
