Tim Du Vernet Photography

Tim DuVernet is in the business of art, specifically photography. He has been photographing Muskoka’s unique natural rhythm for over 25 years, in black and white, as well as in colour. Using primarily medium and large format cameras, Tim Du Vernet captures the shoreline and wilderness beauty of Muskoka on film.

His photographs have appeared in local papers such as The Muskoka Sun, The Herald-Gazette and Muskoka Magazine since 1977. In addition, his passion for antique boats of Muskoka resulted in the publication of Wood and Glory, a full colour celebration of the legacy of wooden boating in Muskoka. It was published by Boston Mills in 1997. Tim is also the photographic editor of ‘Classic Boat’ magazine.

His photographs have also been used on many boat show posters for the Toronto Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society as well as the Muskoka Lakes Association.

Tim’s experience taking photographs for local publications has given him an intimate knowledge of Muskoka’s heritage and rich natural texture. This has been a great asset when placing photographic subjects in the Muskoka background, whether they are an antique boat or family portrait.

As a member of the Muskoka Arts and Crafts, the Arts Council of Muskoka and a director of the Muskoka Music Festival, Tim Du Vernet feels it is important to participate in community arts and to bring arts and culture to the students of Muskoka. The Muskoka Music Festival’s Kaleidoscope of the Arts brings artists into Muskoka schools to share their talents with students and staff. Currently, Glen Orchard Public School and Watt Public School are in the planning stages of some remarkable collaborative programs, in which Tim is involved. He is excited to see what the students and future artists will produce!

Tim lives in the Port Carling area of Muskoka, on the shores of Lake Rosseau. When not with a camera in his hand, he enjoys the calm waters in his rowing shell just after dawn or hiking a rugged trail in Muskoka’s backcountry. In the winter, he enjoys participating in cross-country ski-loppets throughout Ontario.
