Shamrock Lodge near Port Carling offers all you
would expect of a holiday in Muskoka – a lakeside setting, a
well-equipped waterfront, golf courses nearby, comfortable
accommodation with lakefront views, delicious meals and a
congenial, relaxing atmosphere.
“We’re an
all-inclusive, family resort,” says Gary Bryant, who has
owned and operated the resort along with his brother Tim and
their families since 1980. Gary emphasizes the all
–inclusive feature, stating, “You pay one price for the
week when you arrive on the Saturday.”
Located on a quiet bay on
Lake Rosseau, (formerly known as Shamrock Bay, hence the name
for the lodge), the Main lodge includes the original
farmhouse, which was built in 1880. Shamrock Lodge has
expanded since then, though it is still one of the smallest,
family–run resorts on the Muskoka lakes, says Gary. The cozy
size and family environment is attractive to many, as Shamrock
claims many repeat clientele.
The Lodge’s waterfront is
equipped with everything from lounge chairs to windsurfers.
Try sailing, kayaking or canoeing, or a turn at water-skiing.
There’s beach volleyball, tennis, shuffleboard, badminton,
and more. Scenic boat tours aboard the Lodge’s own pontoon
boat are a regular occurrence. For the fishermen try their
‘tour with a lure’ --
trolling from the back of the tour boat. Shamrock boasts some
superb fishing – just take a look at some of the photos of
the catches on the website for proof.
If it’s a rainy day there
is still lots to do indoors, with an indoor pool, table
tennis, billiards, or the lounge to catch up on some reading.
For the kids the resort
runs a children’s program all summer long, which includes
such things as scavenger hunts, sports of all kinds, swimming,
fishing and more. Family
weeks take place the first two weeks of summer and the last
two weeks of summer, when there is a reduced rate for
children.
Mealtime is always a
pleasure at Shamrock, with a full American plan as part of the
all-inclusive price. Some sample dinner entrees include
Medallions of Pork in a mushroom and onion cream sauce, Roast
Prime Rib and Yorkshire Pudding and Fillet of Salmon and
Scallops Italienne. There is a separate children’s menu,
separate dining rooms for adults, families, and one just for
the kids, as well as outdoor lunches and barbeques.
The Main Lodge hosts
traditional, Muskoka style accommodations, with most rooms
including either a deck or balcony for spectacular views of
the lake. Shamrock also has secluded cabins, and a separate,
two-storey chalet.
Sit
back, relax, and enjoy all that Muskoka has to offer at
Shamrock Lodge.
