Susan Eck; abstract artist and poet

A contemporary abstract artist, Susan Eck uses a full palette of rich colours in her artwork. Combining bold brush strokes and simple themes she aims to evoke a strong emotional message in her landscape paintings, using acrylic, oil and mixed media.

The rich colours and simple shapes of flowers, the rich textures of a wheat field, and the vibrant mood of the sky are all superbly conveyed through her paintings.

Her  "Sky Series" of paintings, with blue as the main colour, are set off by strong shapes and textures, demonstrating her desire to share her feelings with the viewer. Susan is also an award-winning poet, and expresses herself as well with the written word as she does through her paintings.

Susan received an ‘Award of Excellence for Mixed Media’ at the 24th Annual Spring Members' Show for Muskoka Arts & Crafts in 1990 for her painting, "Fantasy & Truth".

Writing poetry under the name of Michaela More, Susan has three self-published books, and has her work published in several anthologies. She has won a number of awards for her poetry. In 2001, she was a semi-finalist in a story telling competition hosted by Muskoka Ink.

Susan's paintings are available at several locations throughout Muskoka, including Artemis Piano in Utterson, Jasmine's Arts and Antiques in Bala, Ontario, and the Silver Bridge Gallery, which has galleries in Bracebridge and in Port Carling. Susan also displays her work in Toronto at the Praxis Gallery and the Broken Fence Gallery.

Her studio is located at 1224 Ed Briese Road, in Utterson. Hours are by appointment or chance, June to October. Hours for studio visits are Wednesday to Friday, 10am-4:30pm.
