Muskoka
Sands Resort,
located on the shores of Lake Muskoka near Gravenhurst, is
about to get bigger. The resort recently announced a 1,200
acre expansion that will initially include 42 new cottage
chalets offered for sale, a 7,200 yard CPGA certified 18 hole
golf course and a 20,000 square foot spa, making it one of the
top destinations of its kind in the Muskoka region.
The
golf course -- named Taboo -- will be ready for use in the
summer of 2002, while the world class Sweetgrass Spa and
Treatment Centre will be completed in 2003. Designed by the
people responsible for the Banff Springs Hotel Spa, Sweetgrass
will feature
the Muskoka Sweat Lodge, a therapy administered in a special
chamber where healing mud is applied and heat dried on the
body. Afterwards, tiny water jets gently rain down to wash the
mud away.
Other
areas of the resort will also see some new construction. The
waterfront will see the addition of a new harbour breakwall,
expanded docking facilities and a new fleet of rental boats.
