It's
that time of year again, when boat owners, albeit
reluctantly, must start thinking of winter storage. And, as
any boat owner knows, there's more
to it than simply pulling it from the water and parking it
out of the weather.
Barry
Peters at Pride of Muskoka Marine, located just outside of
Bracebridge on Lake Muskoka states that, "We try to
make it as trouble free and easy as
possible," adding that he sees, "our customer
obligations as a year around activity."
Discussing
the details involved in getting a boat ready for winter he
mentions all that Pride does, including everything from
general winterizing to prevent frost damage to such thing as
stabilizing the fuel, 'fogging' the engine to lubricate the
internal parts, to routine maintenance such as oil
changes.
"These
are done for a variety of situations," Barry states.
The marina can do it at the boat owner's boat house, or
Pride will pick up the boat and then deliver it back to the
boathouse. Pride services Lakes Joseph and Rosseau as well
as Lake Muskoka. It is also done for customers who then take
their boats home with them, and it is done for boats left at
Pride to be stored there for the winter.
Pride
of Muskoka Marine boasts a massive indoor storage facility,
designed to handle most winter storage needs. Over 600 boats
are stored at Pride,
with 40% indoors and the rest shrink wrapped and put up in
racks.
"We
are here all winter," Barry emphasizes, explaining that
staff are there to monitor the snowload and clear snow off
wrapped boats as as often as is necessary, even daily,
depending on the winter.
And
any maintenance needing to be done is also done during the
winter months. "We do a mechanical and overall
inspection of the boat when it is pulled out of the water
for winter storage, and bring any problems to the owner's
attention," Barry says, adding, that "the work is
then done during the winter so when the customer comes back
in the spring they can just turn the key and go."
