A Weekend with Pinchas Zukerman and friends

Pinchas Zukerman, renowned violin and viola virtuoso, is in Muskoka the weekend of October 26 to 28 as part of the very successful Pamela Wallin Cultural weekends at the the Muskoka Sands Resort in Gravenhurst. A Grammy award winning violinist, violist and conductor, Zukerman will be performing two 'autumnal masterpieces' by Mozart and Brahms at the Gravenhurst Opera House.

A welcome reception of wine and hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment kicks off the weekend Friday night, part of the all-inclusive package put together by the Sands. Saturday morning includes a gourmet breakfast and a 'Living Well' seminar. The afternoon is spent at the nearby Gravenhurst Opera House, (transportation is provided) taking in the 'semi-private' concert by Zukerman.

The Music Director of the National Arts Centre Orchestra since April 1998, Zukerman has made 4 recordings with the orchestra, initiated a Young Artists program, led the orchestra on a highly successful Canada Tour, and in 2000 took them on the first-ever visit of a Canadian orchestra to the Middle East.

Born in Tel Aviv, where he first studied music with his father, Pinchas came to America in the early '60's to continue his music studies. He studied under numerous master musicians and has received many awards, both national and international.

Zukerman performs regularly with the world's finest orchestras, and is a frequent chamber music performer, appearing regularly with well known collegues and friends. He is Artist in Residence of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, performing as conductor and a featured soloist for two subscription weeks each year, and each summer appears at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. He also chairs the Pinchas Zukerman Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music, using long-distance learning technology to video-conference with his students.

Recognized for his musical genius, prodigious technique, and devotion to younger generations of musicians, Zukerman is equally respected as a violinist, violist, conductor, pedagogue and chamber musician.  His extensive discography contains over 100 titles, earning him 21 Grammy nominations and two Grammy Awards

After the concert the evening is spent at the Sands, feasting on creations by Chef Rudi Eider and enjoying the live entertainment.

Sunday morning starts with another gourmet breakfast, and then the Pamela Wallin interview with Pinchas Zukernman in the Sands Boathouse lounge. This is an informal discussion which also provides opportunities for audience participation.
