Looking for something to do this New Years' Eve? Muskoka's just the place to see in 2002 by Kim Kerr

Still don't know how to celebrate the New Year? Fret not! There's a lot going on across Muskoka this December 31st, from good old fashioned family celebrations to romantic escapes for couples.

The region's resorts are going all-out to ensure there's fun to be had for all ages. Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville is offering a special Singing in the New Year package for $182 per person, per night (a minimum 2 nights, arriving December 30th or 31st). The package features a choice of select accommodation as well as two tickets to the resort's fun New Year's festivities, including a buffet dinner in the Peninsula Ballroom followed by the fabulous Sing 2001: A Musical Odyssey show. A choice of two seatings are available -- 6 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. Children are most definitely welcome. For just $50 a child (12 years and under, tax and gratuity extra) you can take the kids to the 6 p.m. performance of the award-winning stage show. For further details, visit the website www.deerhurst.ca

Still in Huntsville, Grandview Resort is also hosting New Years' events suitable for the whole family. A special New Years Family Party package includes a choice of accommodation, a gala buffet plus all-night dancing. The cost: From $229 per person. A grown-up version of the package offers accommodations, dinner at the Inn, an adult's only party with a DJ in the Owl's Nest, a complimentary glass of champagne at midnight and party favours. The cost for this package: from $229 per person. For more information or reservations contact 1-800-461-4454.

A little further south, the town of Port Sydney is hosting a fun-filled Gala Mardi Gras Dinner and Dance at the community hall. Sponsored by the Port Sydney, Utterson and Area Chamber of Commerce, the fun begins at 8 p.m. and -- to help keep revelers' stamina up -- a buffet will be available at 10 p.m. A cash bar will stay open into the wee hours, and DJ Andy Lenze will spin many a good dance tune. Masks and party favours will also be available, courtesy of Cakes in Space. Tickets cost $45 a pop, and are available at Zanetti's Store in Port Sydney (call 705-385-2253).

Much of the fun in Bracebridge will center around the Inn at the Falls on Dominion St. To celebrate the New Year, the Inn has developed a special package that includes a sumptuous four-course gourmet dinner in Victoria's Restaurant, live entertainment and a champagne toast at midnight. Breakfast is also included for those brave enough to get up the following day (if you do make breakfast, wander over to the Town Hall for the Mayor's Levee afterwards). For further information, phone 705-645-2245, or toll Free 1-877-645-9212. Alternatively, send the Inn an e-mail at frontdesk@innatthefalls.net

Finally, whether you've stayed up all night partying or managed to wake up without a headache, head over to Gravenhurst KOA Nordic Trails for an early morning cross-country ski. Dubbed the "hang-over special", this January 1st tradition allows early-risers to ski-for-free until noon along the property's 17 kms of trails. (KOA is located off the Gravenhurst Parkway near Muskoka Airport).

Whatever you chose to do to celebrate, have fun… and keep safe!

Happy New Year!
