The Muskoka Concert Association presents The Montreal Guitar Trio at the Gravenhurst Opera House

The Muskoka Concert Association presents The Montreal Guitar Trio at the Gravenhurst Opera House at 2pm (matinee) on February 2, 2003.

The founding members of the Montreal Guitar Trio - Glenn Lévesque, Marc Morin and Sébastien Dufour - create an ensemble that maintains a constant, open dialogue with its audience and the media, is open to different musical aesthetics, and rigorously holds to the artistic credibility of its ventures. The Trio's concerts are relaxed and accessible, embellished with touches of humour.

"Three talented performers and arrangers, an excellent first CD and a group to watch in the months and years to come. A full five stars!" [Rick Phillips, Sound Advice, CBC Radio Two].

Founded in 1998, the Montreal Guitar Trio (MGT) has quickly established itself as one of the most promising instrumental ensembles of its generation. Through its highly original approach and synthesis of different concert musics of the world, the MGT continues to push the creative envelope with music of high intelligence and virtuosity. The music of the Trio is a fusion of classical, jazz and world beat - travelling freely from Boccherini to Metheny, passing through flamenco, folk and tango, as well as the musics of India, South America and Eastern Europe.

In May 1999, the MGT released its debut CD Meninas for the ATMA label (S.R.I.). This disc became ATMA's 4th best selling album for the year and received widespread critical acclaim. In 2001, the Trio created its own production company (FIG Prod. Inc) and record label (BANYAN Records, distributed by S.R.I.), focusing on "world-influenced jazz and classical music". February 2002 saw the release of the new MGT album Garam Masala (BANYAN), featuring many prestigious guest artists from a mosaic of musical cultures: tabla player Ravi Naimpally (Loreena McKennitt, TASA), violinist Carmen Piculeata (Cirque du Soleil, Jeszce Raz), and flautist and percussionist Daniel Roy (La Bottine Souriante, Michel Faubert). Garam Masala has been unanimously hailed by the critics.
