The Manse Gallery offers original art in a charming setting by Shirley Prittie

Located on a picturesque side street in Baysville, Ontario, The Manse Gallery has been offering outstanding original art in a very charming setting since 1986. The century old house, surrounded by lawn and gardens, was once the manse for Bethune United Church, hence the name. Shirley Prittie and Carole Young, partners, have personally managed the enterprise for seventeen years.

All eight rooms in the house are furnished in order to display the painting, pottery and blown glass in a realistic setting. Beautiful floral works grace the bedrooms and the children’s room features special books, puzzles and art.

Twelve to fifteen Canadian artists and artisans contribute fresh pieces each year. One artist, Michael Woodside, a resident of Lake of Bays, captures the essence of historic Bigwin Inn and the Lake of Bays Sailing Club while another, Jake Mol, paints the intriguing villages in the south of France such as Eze.

Porcelain painting, a disappearing art form has added another dimension to the Manse Gallery for the last three years.

The Gallery has offered instruction in painting, beginner to advanced for twelve  years. This programme is now being conducted by Elke Scholz of Bracebridge.

The Gallery is open weekends until Thanksgiving (11 to 4) or by appointment for groups or individuals. 13 Bay Street, Baysville, ON  Phone: 705-767-3117
