King's Forestry Service offers a wide variety of forestry related services
by Doug Smith

King Wright has a passion for trees. It’s evident as he talks about them while we tramp around my property on a cold, wet, fall day. He explains to me why most of my white pines have double crowns, tells me that I should eliminate a small stand of cherry trees that seem to have questionable genetics, as well as suggests ways to better manage a small ash grove on the property.

A registered Professional Forester with a degree in Forestry, and a graduate of the Ontario Advanced Forestry Program, King has over 20 years experience in the forestry industry. He knows trees and forests and how to manage them.

As owner of his own business, King’s Forestry Service, King offers a wide variety of forestry related services, including on-site advice, expertise in trail layout, ecosystem rehabilitation, inventories, and wildlife habitat enhancement.

King’s on-site visit to my small property helped me put things in better perspective. He evaluated the property’s potential, talked to me about what I wanted to do with the property and explained what steps I needed to take to reach these goals.

Depending on what those goals are -- the production of wood and wood products, provision of wildlife habitat, provision of recreational opportunities, or others -- King helps property owners plan to attain these benefits.

For example, if I needed an inventory done of what was on my property, King could provide such a service, and include suggestions on how to help the forest’s health and productivity.

To increase or enhance wildlife habitat King can help a property owner plan to provide the essentials of water, shelter and food. Pointing out that some things that benefit some species impact negatively on others, King states, “The key to having a great variety of wildlife is to have a great variety of habitat.”

If a property owner is developing a recreational trail, King helps select the best route, being sure to minimize the impact on the property, but take advantage of the scenic beauty and wildlife viewing opportunities.

If it has to do with woodlots, windbreaks, watercourses, wetlands or wildlife, King can help to increase the future value and enhance the daily enjoyment of the property.
