Inn at the Falls: Traditional English fare, with a view by Kim Kerr

Bracebridge has what is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque waterfalls in all of Muskoka. It also offers some of the region’s most memorable dining experiences.

One of my favourite restaurants manages to combine both -- the splendour of Bracebridge Falls with great food. The Fox and the Hound Pub, located in the cellars of the 125 year-old Inn at the Falls, offers a stupendous view of the falls from its patio as well as excellent traditional English pub fare. (In the unlikely event you tire of the falls-view, the splendid flowering shrubs and perennials are a treat, too.)

One of my favourite staples at the pub is the excellent traditional fish and chips, served in a beer batter and with tasty thick-cut fries. Chased down with a pint of fine English ale, it’s a taste of the old country that keeps me – and countless other visitors to Muskoka – coming back again and again.

Another favourite is the traditional steak and kidney pie, which the Inn’s owners claim is the best of its kind this side of the Atlantic.

A good selection of daily specials are always available, including home-made soups and, for those looking to watch their calorie intake, a variety of fresh and tasty salads.

Once you’re finished your meal, venture to the Inn’s main floor and ask the receptionist for a peak at the excellent accommodations – if you’re looking for a romantic getaway, the Inn has a lot to offer.

One more thing – ask your server to tell you about the ghosts that frequent the premises. It makes for a good tale while you enjoy your meal… and the view.

Inn at the Falls is located on Dominion Street in Bracebridge. For more information, call 705-645-2245, or visit their website at www.innatthefalls.net
