Rosseau’s
newest shop, Hilltop Interiors Inc., is having its first
Christmas this year, and is all decked out to celebrate.
Situated across from the General Store in Rosseau, Hilltop
plays host to a Christmas Open house this upcoming weekend,
November 24 and 25, held at the same time as the village’s
Antique show.
“I love Christmas,” says owner Lena Patten, “so I may
have gone a little overboard, but I try to have something
for everyone”, she explains. “I am keeping things rustic
for Christmas, -- the outdoors being brought in.” Patten
says. “There are twiggy kinds of trees and very natural
decorations using pinecones and berries.”
“And there are stocking stuffers and gift ideas for the
kids, such as a soap with a globe inside when the kids are
finished using the soap.”
Located in one of the Rosseau’s older buildings, Hilltop
opened just last May in time for the Victoria Day weekend,
after a complete renovation by Lena’s husband, Randy.
It’s not the first time
the Hilltop name was used for the building, which has seen a
long and varied history, including a fire. Lena used the
Hilltop name again to preserve some of the history.
Boasting both unique and
traditional pieces for sale, Hilltop has everything from
home furnishings, such as sofas, beds, tables and hutches,
to accessories such as bedding, lamps and special platters
to antiques and local art, with prices ranging accordingly.
“I try to make it a one-stop, decorating shop,” states
Lena.
With a background in art and interior design, and experience
as a consultant, Lena brings a good art and business mix to
the store, as well as a personal touch.
“I try to make the
place cozy, with candles lit and a plate of goodies. It’s
not just to get into the Christmas spirit but also to create
a welcoming atmosphere.”
Hilltop Interiors is
located in the Village of Rosseau on Highway #141.
The Open House is this
weekend, November 24th and 25th, from 9-5
Saturday and 10-4 Sunday. During the week they are open
Mondays to Thursdays 9 to 5 and Fridays 9 to 7. For more
information call 705-732-4040.
