Located
in its namesake town in Muskoka, Gravenhurst Plastics
Limited is a plastic pipe manufacturer. In business since
1968 Gravenhurst Plastics was founded by George Beard and
has achieved a steady and continual growth since it first
opened its doors 33 years ago.
Gravenhurst
Plastics began with a single extrusion machine, gradually
expanding its facilities to include injection molding and
blow molding. The company has seen three major expansions
since 1968, including the acquisition of Temiskaming
Plastics Ltd. located in Earlton, Ontario in 1992.
When
founder George Beard retired in 1993, Frank Hamer (who is
the current President and CEO) purchased Gravenhurst
Plastics and Temiskaming Plastics. Together these two plants
have the capability of servicing the entire province of
Ontario and beyond.
The
company has evolved from manufacturing low to medium density
polyethylene pipe, to producing a variety of products,
including high density sod rollers, lawn edging, rose
collars, trellises and rain spouts used for home and
gardens, fishing rod cases, golf tubes and battery boxes for
the recreation industry, and
drill hole casings, loading sticks and flag tubes
used in the mining industry.
But
the company’s main product is Drainage
Tubing. GP produces both corrugated drainage
tubing and corrugated fittings used in the
construction industry, and coilable high
density polyethylene duct (Polyduct) used in the
communication industry.
Gravenhurst
Plastics and Temiskaming Plastics produce corrugated
drainage tubing in a variety of sizes from 3" to
8" in both solid and a perforated format. Their
perforated pipe can take on any perforation configuration
their customers may require, and is available with a filter
sock. All corrugated fittings - from elbows to caps - are
produced at the Gravenhurst plant.
Used
for road construction, foundation drainage, farm drainage
and golf course drainage, the corrugated drainage tubing is
available in rolls ranging from 100 feet to 4000 feet.
Four-inch corrugated Hydro-Approved pipe is also available,
and includes a pull cord inside used to protect buried hydro
cable. The pull cord inside allows for the cable to be
pulled through after the tubing has been buried.
Gravenhurst
Plastics holds a patent for its High Density Polyethylene
Multiduct. The multiduct is a combination of 3 one and a
quarter inch pipes encased in polyethylene sheath. GP’s
Multiduct [because it is three pipes in one] saves the
installer labour costs involved in inserting three pipes
into one duct and reduces installation time.
Gravenhurst
Plastics also has the facilities and capability to do custom
injection molding. They have produced a diverse range of
products, from paintbrush handles and robot components, to
sewer pipe fittings to dock bumpers. Visit their website at www.gpltd.com
