Need a break? Finch House B&B is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway
by Kim Kerr

Muskoka certainly has no shortage of excellent places for a “sleep-over”. The region boasts some of the country’s top resorts, and has a lot to offer those seeking a break… without having to break the bank.

If you’re looking for some extra-special personal service, you can’t do much better than booking into one of the more than 50 Bed and Breakfast establishments that dot the region. B&Bs are in fact experiencing something of a renaissance in Muskoka and are fast becoming a popular alternative to hotels and motels. Ranging from family run cottage affairs to luxurious farmhouses, there’s a Muskokan B&B to match any budget.

One fine example of the Muskoka B&B experience is Finch House in Gravenhurst. This beautiful 1880s home – easy to spot due to its distinctive 1880's green and white "stick style" construction – has been completely restored without the loss of any of its period grace or charm. Each of the property’s three guest rooms – each with an ensuite bathroom – get plenty of sunlight, but if you’re looking for some company while you enjoy the sunshine, a comfortable sun room is available for use by all guests. As well as socializing over a full breakfast – including fresh baked goods from the B&B’s own kitchen – guests can mingle any time of day or night in the property’s large living room.

If you can drag yourself away from the pampering you’ll receive from hosts Mary and Mark Finch, you’ll find you’re ideally located to enjoy the many attractions available in Gravenhurst.

Finch House is an easy walk to Bethune House, the birth place of Canadian legend Norman Bethune, as well as the Opera House – home to countless excellent shows and performances year-round. A short stroll will also take you to the Gravenhurst Bay, the home port of the historic RMS Seqwun steamship, and Main Street, with its many shops and boutiques, is just minutes away.

A stay at Finch House costs from $115 - $125 per room per night, depending on the room chosen (for example, a room with a queen bed and Jacuzzi costs $125, while a queen with a clawfoot tub costs $120).

For further information, contact: Finch House B&B, 190 Mary Street North, Gravenhurst, ON P1P 1H1; phone 705-687-5942, or e-mail info@finchhouse.ca
