Every
year, the Chapel Gallery Committee proposes a thematic
challenge to the membership.
How does the gallery
committee decide upon a concept that will be
artistically intriguing to artists working in a variety
of different fields? It is said that, in the game of
Trivial Pursuit, the first answer that pops into your
head is usually the right one.
So, this year, to
inspire our members for the Chapel Gallery’s Winter
Theme Show, the gallery committee rolled the dice again
and asked, "What is a family?"
A family is defined
in dictionaries as a household of parents and their
children, a group of parents and children, or near
relatives. But, we are artists, one and all. We don’t
go for the obvious, even if we try. Which brings us to
the rest of the definition of "family;" a
group of allied objects. Hence, our challenge for this
show, simply called "Family."
This
exhibition will explore what appears at first glance to
be a very common theme, and will surprise and delight
everyone looking for an uncommon winter show with
laughter, tears, or just plain cleverness.
Located at 15 King Street in Bracebridge, the gallery is
open year-round, Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm
and 2pm to 5pm. It is closed during the last week of
September and the second week of October as well as
between Christmas and New Year’s Days.
The Chapel Gallery
was opened in September, 1989. Housed in a
reconstruction of the first Presbyterian Church in
Bracebridge, the Chapel Gallery hosts exhibitions of art
and craft by our members and other local and provincial
artists. Exhibitions are selected by the Gallery
Committee and change every three to four weeks.
