Located
just a few minutes from downtown Huntsville sits one of the
quaintest family-run resorts you’re likely to find anywhere
– Falcon Lodge.
Picture perfect any
time of the year, Falcon Lodge has been attracting visitors to
Muskoka for more than a 100 years. And, if owners Peter and
Joyce Schram have their way, it’s a tradition isn’t going
to stop any time soon.
“We’ve been here for
six years now, and are starting to notice that many of our
guests keep coming back year-after-year,” says Joyce Schram.
“Most of them come up from Toronto, but we also get a lot of
people coming up from the States, too.”
Asked just what, exactly,
keeps visitors coming back to Falcon Lodge – could it be the
scenery, the location, the tranquility? – Joyce simply
laughs.
“Of course, all of those
things are important,” she confides. “But the real reason,
many of our guests tell us, is our cooking!”
Little wonder – every meal offered at Falcon Lodge is
lovingly prepared by Joyce and Peter themselves. And dining is
certainly always an intimate affair as the dining room sets
just 20 guests.
A
variety of spacious accommodations are available, all offering
a great deal of privacy – just the kind of thing you’d
expect (and need) from a Muskoka getaway. Main lodge suites
range from one- to three-bedrooms, all with private balconies
and excellent views of the charming Muskoka landscape. The
two- and three-bedroom chalets are set amidst a sea of great
white pines overlooking the unspoiled shoreline of Lake
Vernon.
Year-round fun for all
And
there’s always a lot to do at Falcon Lodge. During the
summer months there’s plenty of watery fun, including
boating (the lodge has access to a chain of four lakes),
canoeing, fishing and swimming. Of course, if you’re like
me, you might just prefer to pull up a sun lounger and soak up
the rays on the sandy beach!
For
sports enthusiast there’s also a lot of activities to chose
from, including badminton, volleyball, basketball, croquet,
horseshoes, lawn darts and tetherball. Three golf courses are
located close by, and tennis, horseback riding and some great
hiking trails are easily accessible. There’s also some
excellent hiking available in the unspoiled wilderness of
Algonquin and Arrowhead Parks, just
a short drive away.
Winter’s
always a good time to visit Falcon Lodge, too. Apart from the
breathtaking views of acre after acre of snow-covered forests
and lakes, outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy cross-country and
downhill skiing, snowmobiling and tubing.
Winter
packages are available from as little as $80 per night.

Oh,
and one other thing… Peter and Joyce speak German,
Dutch and Danish fluently, so you might want to make use of
your visit to brush up on your language skills.
