There is a new retail shop open in Port Carling this summer. Planet Dori, from Designs by Dori, offers all the latest in trendy jewellery, from colour change mood jewellery to Illusion toe rings, anklets of all kinds and much more. Situated in the 'Shops of Riverview', across from Steamboat Bay and next door to the Compleat Angler Restaurant, Planet Dori is open 10am to 5pm, seven days a week throughout the summer until Labour Day.

  "It's my first year of retail in Port Carling," says owner Dori Gruneau.

  But Dori is no stranger to Port Carling. She's had her own wholesale business there for the past 15 years, operating out of her home until four years ago, when she moved the growing business into an office in town. The new retail outlet is an extension of her ever expanding wholesale business, known as Designs by Dori.

  Dori started in the jewellery business producing her own hand-made jewellery, and attending various craft shows, such as the Muskoka Arts and Crafts Summer Show at Annie Williams Park in Bracebridge. She then started to target the 'tween' market, and began importing products from Hong Kong and Taiwan and other Southeast Asian locations. Dori has traveled to many of these distant locales on her buying trips, including China and even Thailand, and plans to visit the Philippines sometime in the future. Attending trade shows across the US and Canada is also part of her work with her wholesale business. 

  She now does the merchandising for the products she imports, designing the packaging for an extensive line of trendy jewellery, fashion accessories, novelties, and room decor for re-sale throughout Canada and even into the US. Many of her clients are located in tourist locations, including Banff, Jasper, Victoria, and Vancouver. She also sells her products in various gift stores, museum shops and even some chain stores. And now she has her own store in the tourist area of Muskoka, in her own hometown of Port Carling.
