After
a successful 1st season running their cottage
commuter service between Toronto and Muskoka last summer,
Cloud Air Ltd. is now offering an expanded weekend commuter
service. Consisting of five scheduled flights -- two on
Friday, one Sunday, and two Monday, with more on the long
weekends -- the flights depart from City Centre (Toronto
Island Airport) and arrive at Mortimer’s Point (located
near Port Carling).
This weekend commuter
service between Toronto and Muskoka is handled by a turbine
powered Cessna Caravan. “The eight passenger Caravan is
ideal for this type of service as it provides spacious and
comfortable travel” explains Dean Mortimer, Director of
Operations and Chief Pilot for Cloud Air Service Ltd.
The Caravan was selected because it is an amphibious
aircraft, capable of landing at any one of Toronto’s
Airports or on any of the lakes in Muskoka.
The jet engine that propels the Caravan completes the
commute from Toronto to Muskoka in a mere 35 minutes.
Landing at Mortimer's Point near Port Carling, and also
nearby Port Sandfield, most cottagers on Lake Muskoka or
Lake Joseph are within a 15-minute boat ride from their
cottage, making this service very effective.
Cloud Air also does the
very popular sight seeing tours to “Henry’s Famous Fish
Restaurant” on Georgian Bay, which is only accessible by
seaplane or boat. Direct flights depart from Mortimer’s
Point daily during the summer, or you can arrange for a
personal tour from your dock.
Mortimer has charter
planes flying to Killarney, Ottawa, Montreal, Hudson Bay,
New York, and just about anywhere else his customers want to
go.
Sight seeing excursions
and charters from their base at Mortimer’s Point and
various resorts in Muskoka are available to serve
individuals wanting excursions to remote lakes or private
islands, or for drop-offs and pick-ups from canoe and kayak
trips.
Cloud Air Service is a
pioneer aviation company that has grown into one of central
Ontario’s largest float operations. It is currently the
only float service with a base of operations in Muskoka.
Dean Mortimer comes from
a long line of aviation enthusiasts, and Dean’s own
interest in flying was a very natural continuation of this
flying heritage. Dean began flying at the age of 13, and has
since accumulated thousands of flight hours within the
commercial operations of Cloud Air and other commercial,
business and corporate aviation operations.
“We have always been
customer service driven and have formed a loyal clientele.
We are now fortunate to operate ten aircraft, with the
Caravan being the largest and fastest of the fleet”.
Seating 8 passengers comfortably in its newly refurbished
interior, the plush leather seats and ample legroom provide
executive style seating, transporting passengers in comfort
and style.
The weekend trip to the
cottage just got a whole lot easier.
