Dining at The Inn at Christie’s Mill by Doug Smith

Gloucester Pool is the last stretch of water on the historic Trent-Severn Waterway before it empties into Georgian Bay. Boasting numerous islands and bays, this large inlet is a favourite retreat for cottagers and boaters. And it’s this picturesque body of water that the Inn at Christie’s Mill overlooks.

A four-season resort located in Port Severn, the Inn offers some of its best views of the northern Muskoka lakes from each of its two dining rooms. Enjoy the seasons’ ever changing shows – fall’s spectacular colours, a snowy winter scene, spring’s green-up or a summer sunset–- while feasting on a delicious meal of Georgian Bay lake trout or other specially prepared dish.

Chef du Cuisine Dave Onciul prepares traditional Canadian dishes with a local emphasis. Try the escargots, (served with leeks, garlic and fresh herbs wrapped in phyllo pastry) and the Sautéed Medallions of Pork Tenderloin along with your Grilled Lake Trout. Or savour the Georgian Bay pickerel, served alongside regionally grown fruits and vegetables. Favourite desserts include raspberry or chocolate cheesecake. And don’t forget to try a vintage wine from the cellar. Each week features a different quality wine, not available through the LCBO.

On weekends, try Christie’s Grill BBQ on Friday nights and their Prime Ribs on Saturday nights.

In the summertime the Inn at Christie’s Mill has their Dock & Dine, which is popular with boaters. Just tie up your boat at the Inn’s new docks and come in for a meal – breakfast, lunch or dinner. Boaters take note. The Inn at Christie’s Mill is located at Lock 45 on Gloucester Pool. Reservations are suggested, whether you are coming to dine or for an overnight or extended stay.
