There’s a lot to be said for the tried and the
tested… especially when it comes to spending those hard
earned vacation dollars. And they don’t come much more
“tried and tested” than Cedar
Grove Lodge. One of Muskoka’s older resorts, Cedar Grove Lodge has been
hosting vacationers for close to 70 years. And after visiting
the resort it’s easy to see why people keep coming back.
Located
on the shores of beautiful Peninsula
Lake near Huntsville, Cedar Grove boasts 19 cozy cottages,
all of them nestled among tall pine trees, and all equipped
with fieldstone fireplaces. Many of the top-end cottages even
come equipped with some great names – the deluxe
“Raven”, with its Whirlpool bath tub; "Hermit
Thrush” with its commanding view of the lake; and the
fireplace cottages "Bobolink",
"Lovebird" and "Snowgoose”. The resort
also has eight well-equipped and cozy main lodge rooms.
Set
amid 75 acres of rugged Muskoka countryside, Cedar Grove is
full of possibilities for those who enjoy outdoor activities.
The resort takes full advantage of its lakeside location,
offering a number of exciting water activities including
water-skiing, scenic boat tours on a 10 person pontoon boat,
canoeing and kayaking, and some great fishing. Best of all,
these activities are free for the resort’s guests. There are
also a variety of programs to occupy the wee ‘uns, as well
as a children’s beach with roped in swimming area, slide and
diving board.
The
resort also has two tennis courts, as well as indoor and
outdoor shuffleboard, horseshoes. For gold enthusiasts, a
number of top-notch courses are located nearby. Nature lovers
will want to check out the interpretive nature trail, and
maybe enjoy toasted marshmallows at the campfire pit.
Afterwards, guests can relax in the resort’s hot tub, or
take in a movie on the big screen TV.
Great
food at Grove Lodge
Cedar
Grove’s newly renovated dining room in the main lodge offers
a variety of delicious home cooked meals. Along with the
lakeside-view you’ll enjoy delicious breakfasts, lunches and
dinner… ahh, dinner! How does homemade French Canadian pea
soup with maple syrup, followed by chicken Wellington with
herb jus sound? Or perhaps you’d prefer the pickerel with
lemon parsley butter, or the fussili tossed in herbal olive
oil with fresh grilled vegetables and marinara sauce?
Whichever of these delightful dishes you chose, you’ll want
to follow it up with the wild Muskoka strawberry shortcake,
that’s for sure.
A
summer stopover at Cedar Grove needn’t break the bank. Daily
rates start at
$75 per
person, with the most deluxe rooms costing $140 (including 3
meals). Off season and special package rates are often
available. For further details, call 1-800-461-4269 or write
to Cedar Grove Lodge, P. O. Box 5104, Huntsville, ON P1H 2K5.
