Accommodations

Muskoka B&Bs are a home-away-from-home by Kim Kerr

For those looking for that extra-special personal service when visiting Muskoka – whether for a weekend or for an extended stay -- you couldn’t do much better than checking out one of the region’s many Bed and Breakfasts. Long a staple of the British tourist industry, B&Bs are fast becoming the most popular alternative to hotels and motels in Canada.

Few regions can boast the variety and excellence of B&Bs found in Muskoka. From the affordable luxury of a lakeside home to the rural splendor of a century farmhouse, Muskoka’s B&Bs offer a down-home, home-away-from-home charm equaled by few resorts.

The following are a few more reasons why you might want to consider a B&B on your next visit to Muskoka:

      • B&B's range from the simple to the luxurious, with price ranges to match all budgets

      • Staying in a B&B offers more opportunities to meet and understand the region’s unique culture and people

      • You’ll be directed by your hosts to those undiscovered spots never mentioned in travel brochures and advertisements

      • You’ll receive unparalleled personal service

• Most important of all, you’ll depart having made some new friends!

Researching the perfect Muskoka B&B

A useful resource for those seeking B&B accommodation in Muskoka is the Muskoka Bed and Breakfast Association. Visit their website at www.bbmuskoka.com where you can search B&Bs alphabetically, by city or town, or via an easy-to-use online map. (All Muskoka Bed and Breakfast Association affiliated establishments will display a screen door logo.)

Another extremely useful website – www.bbontario.com – is  hosted by Janette Higgins, acclaimed author of The Best Places to Bed and Breakfast in Ontario. Higgins only includes in her guide B&Bs that she’s actually stayed at. And, so as not to be unduly influenced by fawning hosts, she visits incognito.
