If you are looking for something to do with the kids this summer you need the new edition of Muskoka Kids’ Summer Fun for Families. Their 2006 version was just released, and is available at retail outlets throughout the region.
Now in its third year, this useful little guidebook is chock full of things to see and do with the kids this summer in
Muskoka. Over 50 pages, plus coupons, list everything from events and attractions for kids, to day camps, to kid-friendly restaurants, and much more. Each section contains a number of sub-categories, showing all the details of where and when and who to contact.
The Activities and Classes section, for example, has a great list to choose from, such as art workshops at The Muskoka Place in Port Carling, paint-your-own ceramics at Studio K in
Bracebridge, and scrapbooking classes and supplies at ABC in Huntsville, to name but a few. Some offer a coupon, too, such as a free ‘Kritter T-shirt’ with the purchase of a kritter from Studio K. There are equestrian classes, drawing classes, story hours at local libraries and many other related activities listed.
The Attractions section offers everything from boat rides and bike rentals to bowling and even helicopter rides. Their list of family-friendly restaurants include the Dairy Queen, of course, as well as the Gingerbread House café in
Bracebridge, and Rosskoka ‘on the locks’, located overlooking the locks in Port Carling.
The Birthdays and Special Occasions section lists all the places to find supplies for that big day. Other sections in the guide cover the basics, too, with a listing of such things as the locations of public washrooms in the region. The Parent stuff section offers moms and dads some ideas for a break, too, while the health section provides still more practical help in the form of walk-in clinic locations and health unit contacts. The double-page map in the middle helps you get oriented.
Whether you are just visiting the region for all or part of the summer, or are a year-round resident, the features in this guide make it a practical and handy reference. Muskoka Kids is available on the web at
www.muskokakids.com, with up-to-date information on the latest events, but a hard copy is a must. With this in hand your summer with the kids in Muskoka will be one of endless possibilities.
